Parashat Chayei Sarah 5786 en inglés

from Efrayimbenshalom

JAYEI SARAH Sarah, the first of the four matriarchs (Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah), lived one hundred twenty seven years (nineteen fifty-eight to two thousand eighty-five since Creation). The name of the Parashah refers to Sarah's life, but curiously, it begins with the description of her death. She was the daughter of Haran, sister of Lot, niece and wife of Abraham, and mother of the second of the patriarchs: Isaac. At the age of eighty nine, HaKadosh Baruch Hu changed her name Sarai to Sarah, to signify her role as the mother of the people of Israel. Sarah was one of the seven prophetesses of the people of Israel, but she was the only one to whom HaKadosh Baruch Hu spoke directly. The other six were Miriam, Deborah, Hannah, Avigail, Huldah, and Esther. Isaac was born on the fifteenth of Nissan, the same day that would later be celebrated as the Exodus from Egypt (the Passover). Isaac looked very much like his father Abraham, and even though he was old, he looked young because in Abraham's time people did not have outward signs of aging.
