On the first of Shvat (37 days before his passing), Moshe commenced his repetition of the Torah for the entire congregation of the Children of Israel. He then proceeded to outline the promised land, highlighting the importance of rectifying past mistakes and embracing the Torah's teachings. He emphasized the need for the people to play an active role in ensuring the fulfillment of the Torah and the observation of its precepts in the land that Hashem had promised them as an eternal inheritance. He made it clear that this would only be possible after his passing. Moshe also recalls some of the more recent events, including the refusal of the nations of Moab and Ammon to allow the People of Israel to pass through their land, the war against the Emorite kings Sichon and Og, and the subsequent settlement in their lands by the tribes of Reuben and Gad.
