Parashat Ki Tisá en Inglés 5786.

from Efrayimbenshalom

KI TISÁ The Parashat of this week is called Ki-Tisá, in which we read about the Sin of the Golden Calf. The giving of the Torah had taken place shortly before, when the nation of Israel was the “bride” of the Holy One, Blessed be He. This represented the highest possible level of connection with the Creator. Forty days later: a total disaster! The Nation of Israel turned its back on HaShem and sinned in the gravest way: “The people saw that Moshé Rabenu delayed in descending from the mountain. The people gathered around Aharón HaCohen and said to him: ‘Rise. Make for us a god that will go before us, for we do not know what has happened to this man Moshé Rabenu who brought us out of the land of Egypt.’” Rabi Natán explains that the key point was that “they did not attempt to seek the kedusha of Moshe Rabenu on their own”; they depended on a “borrowed unison,” they did not try to connect by themselves, nor did they develop a communion with the sacred. A disconnection between the multitude and HaShem is observed. For not valuing it, Abba took Moshé away, as well as the teachings, the revelations, and the wonders that were performed through him. The wonders and the giving of the Torah were not appreciated as the progressive revelation of the Creator; spiritual direction and the proper attitude of reverence were lost. The parashat describes the greatness of the revelation when the Torah descends with escort, the banners of the malajim, the words of fire. It was an open revelation accompanied by incredible miracles; all saw how healings and miracles occurred at that moment of the revelation of the Torah—there were cures and the desert flourished: the one who had no arm, the blind who regained sight, and the healing of diseases. This display was intended to bring people closer to the Creator in stages, not merely to impress.
