Jacob buys land near Shechem, whose prince, also named Shechem, kidnaps and rapes Jacob's daughter Dinah. Dinah's brothers, Shimon and Levi, avenge the misfortune by killing all the male inhabitants, after rendering them helpless by convincing them to be circumcised
