Parkinson's Ireland Roscommon - The Ability Show 11/06/26

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that primarily affects movement. It occurs when nerve cells in the brain (specifically those responsible for producing dopamine) die or are damaged. Ciara O’Connell is 48 years of age and has been living with the condition for over 13 years. Ciara tells Adrianne about her diagnosis, her symptoms, the medication available and the DBS or Deep Brain Stimulation surgery she has had that has changed her life. She also talks about the supports that are available to both the person with Parkinson's and their families/carers. These supports are provided by the charitable organisation Parkinson's Galway-Roscommon that is run by amazing volunteers like Caroline Rushe.
