We cannot pass the torch while focusing on their weaknesses; we must see them through the lens of God’s commitment to them. This transition requires a shift from management to mentorship. It is a call for the elder generation to rely on divine insight rather than human reasoning, seeking God’s heart to discover what He is building in young leaders. By speaking to their identity before their behavior, we ensure that when they finally take the torch, they carry it with the confidence of knowing who they are in Christ. Core Principles of the Handoff: Visionary Seeing: We must see the next generation not as they are, but as God intends them to be. The Language of Encouragement: The baton is passed through praise and reinforcement. Whatever we celebrate in emerging leaders, we will see more of. The Foundation of Love: We earn the right to guide the next generation through a history of proven love, patience, and long-suffering. Identity-First Leadership: We prepare them to lead by naming their calling—speaking courage into the timid and holiness into the struggling—just as Jesus renamed Peter before he was ready to lead. Building, Not Just Managing: Our legacy is not found in the systems we leave behind, but in the people we have built up to carry the flame forward. A Model for the Home: This "passing of the torch" is the primary mission of parenting—loving our children into the fullness of their God-given identity.
