Passion Sunday Year B 2024
from Purifying Word · host Fr Chinedu Enuh
We are now approaching the peak of our salvation history. We process and walk behind Jesus as he goes to Jerusalem, an entrance which prophetically anticipates his paschal triumph and entry into the heavenly glory which now awaits us if we persevere. This entry fulfils the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9, “Rejoice daughter of Jerusalem! Your king comes to you; victorious and riding on a donkey…” Today’s passion narrative, horrifically ended with Jesus crucified and buried. But because Jesus put his trust in God, his hope (our hope) will not fail. In contemplating Christ’s passion and glorious triumph, with gratitude, we are to heed today’s second reading invitation to imitate the humility and submission of Christ to his Father’s will. Thus, today’s first reading, tells us that the suffering servant, Jesus, made no resistance to his father’s will. Rather, he placed his hope in the One who judges justly. On Easter Sunday, we will see that Jesus was never forsaken. We too will not be shamed as we put our hope in Jesus. Therefore, we journey with Jesus in his passion during Holy Week to share in his glorious Triumph on Easter Sunday and be filled with Joy. Happy Passion Sunday
