ADDM 2022, published 17 April 2025, reports 32.2 per 1,000 children aged 8 years, which is 1 in 31, or 3.2 percent (MMWR Surveill Summ 2025;74(2):1-22). (2) In the audio: Three, autism spectrum disorder prevalence is currently 1 in 36. — Correct: Superseded. The current CDC figure is 1 in 31 (3.2 percent), from the ADDM 2022 surveillance year published in 2025. Say 1 in 36 only when naming the historical trend. (3) In the audio: The diagnosed male to female ratio is approximately 3.8 to 1. — Correct: 3.8 to 1 was the 2020 surveillance year. In the 2022 ADDM report ASD was 3.4 times as prevalent among boys as girls (49.2 versus 14.3 per 1,000). The direction of the trend the episode describes, a ratio falling as female recognition improves, is right; the number has moved with it. (4) In the audio: The median age of diagnosis remains roughly 4.5 years. — Correct: In the 2022 ADDM report the median age of earliest known ASD diagnosis was 47 months, just under 4 years. The stated goal of diagnosis before age 3 is unchanged. (5) In the audio: In reality, co-occurring intellectual disability is present in 31 to 38 percent of children diagnosed with autism. — Correct: In the 2022 ADDM report, 39.6 percent of the children aged 8 years with ASD who had information on cognitive ability were classified as having an intellectual disability.
