Pete Hegseth Is Purging Black and Female Officers From the Military

Pete Hegseth personally removed two Black officers and two female officers from the Army’s one-star general promotion list — officers with decades of exemplary service. His chief of staff told the Army Secretary that Trump wouldn’t want to stand next to a Black female officer at military events. That officer served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a combat engineer. Hegseth served on a reality show. He called generals who served under Lloyd Austin “cowards hiding under stars.” He stripped grooming waivers for Black servicemembers with skin conditions. He’s gutting the chaplain corps for “secular humanism.” 43% of the military is people of color, and an Air Force veteran told The Grio he wouldn’t encourage a person of color to enlist right now.
