Philly Sheriff’s office could face outside oversight if deed issue is not resolved
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Common Pleas Court is ordering Sheriff Rochelle Bilal to provide a full accounting of every sale since she took office six years ago, along with a plan to handle payments and deliver deeds "promptly." The Inquirer reports Bilal or a representative from her office will have to appear at a public hearing in July to argue why a court-appointed "special master" should not be brought in to oversee the process. The order comes just weeks after Bilal told City Council her office was running "full blast." The Inquirer says a review of city records, court documents, and interviews shows the deed problem has not been fixed, and in some cases, has gotten worse. (photo credit: Pat Loeb/KYW Newsradio)
