Phyllis Kinney

from Beti a'i Phobol Hosted by BBC Radio Cymru

Rhaglen o'r archif lle mae Beti George yn holi y diweddar Phyllis Kinney, nôl yn 1997. Roedd y gantores Phyllis Kinney, a'i diweddar ŵr, Dr Meredydd Evans, yn cael eu hystyried yn ddau o ffigyrau pwysicaf a mwyaf dylanwadol cerddoriaeth draddodiadol Cymru. Er iddi ddechrau ei gyrfa fel cantores opera yn yr Unol Daleithiau, daeth cerddoriaeth werin yn ganolog i fywyd a gwaith Phyllis. Yng Mangor y cyfarfu â'r ysgolhaig a'r cerddor gwerin Merêd Evans, ac fe briododd y cwpl cyn symud i fyw i'r Unol Daleithiau ar ddechrau'r 1950au. Wedi iddynt ddychwelyd i Gymru, ymroddodd Phyllis a Merêd i gasglu, diogelu a hyrwyddo traddodiad canu gwerin Cymru, gan sicrhau bod caneuon gwerin yn cael eu cadw ar gyfer cenedlaethau'r dyfodol. Cyfrannodd Phyllis yn helaeth at y maes drwy gyhoeddi erthyglau, papurau academaidd a llyfrau uchel eu parch ar gerddoriaeth. Dyma gyfle i wrando ar y sgwrs gynnes a chofiadwy Phillys Kinney gyda Beti George yn 1997.
