Pink Retardant Covers Burning Hills As San Bernardino Firefighters Fight Blaze

from NTA Video Stories

San Bernardino, California – A vegetation fire spread across dry, brush-covered hills as firefighters and aircraft worked to slow the blaze near Foothill Drive and Manzanita Drive. Flames moved along the ridge of a steep hillside under heavy gray smoke, with bright orange fire fronts advancing through light, flashy fuels. The footage shows San Bernardino County Fire engines, CAL FIRE trucks, and U.S. Forest Service vehicles positioned along dirt roads while firefighters in yellow gear worked near the equipment. A large red-and-white air tanker later made a sharp turn over the burning slopes and released a long stream of vivid pink fire retardant. Additional aircraft appeared overhead as smoke continued rising from active hot spots. The fire was reported at approximately 40 acres before aerial mapping updated the size to 26.5 acres. San Bernardino County Fire, CAL FIRE San Bernardino Unit, and the San Bernardino National Forest responded to the incident under unified command. Air tankers dropped multiple loads of retardant while ground crews built containment lines. Forward spread was stopped and containment reached 30 percent by evening. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as crews continued operations through the night.
