Wisdom plays the long game.Mae West famously said, “It’s not the men in my life; it’s the life in my men.”Now, let me borrow the rhythm without borrowing “her men” to make a point.It’s not merely the years in your life. It’s the life in your years that can put better years in your life.Proverbs nine eleven says in the New International Version:“For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.”Wisdom is concerned with longevity—but not merely calendar longevity. It teaches us to build a kind of life that can hold the years God gives us.Because you can be breathing and still not be living.You can add candles without adding character.You can grow older without growing wiser.But wisdom puts something inside the years: direction, discernment, boundaries, patience and purpose.Now let me put a theological guardrail right here: Proverbs gives us a general pattern, not a guaranteed contract.Faithful people sometimes die young. Foolish people sometimes live a long time.This verse isn’t saying wisdom makes you untouchable. It’s saying God’s wisdom keeps steering life away from paths that cut it short—and toward habits, relationships and decisions that make life more whole.That’s the long game.The fool wants the big play right now.Wisdom will take four yards and keep moving.The fool burns tomorrow to feel good today.Wisdom asks, “Will this decision still bless me when the crowd goes home?”That’s where years are added—not only to your life, but inside your life.So don’t just ask God for more time.Ask God for more life in the time.More love in it.More truth in it.More presence in it.More purpose in it.Kickoff is exciting.
