Pod Pick: John DeCuffa Sr.

Chaz and AJ spoke with John DeCuffa Sr., owner & operator of Jack's Bait & Tackle in City Island, Bronx — and it was a surprise appearance! The interview had originally been scheduled with his son, John Jr., but John Sr. ended up on the air without knowing he was going to be interviewed.John shared the incredible history of the family business, which has been serving fishermen since 1945. The shop was founded on City Island by John’s grandfather, Jack, shortly after Jack returned home from serving as a Marine in World War II.  John also talked about the history of the Bluefish Tournament, including some of the wild attempts fishermen have made over the years to cheat and gain an advantage. Looking ahead, John discussed his plans for retirement and the next chapter for Jack’s Bait & Tackle. His sons are preparing to take over the family business, continuing a tradition that has lasted for generations and nearly eight decades.
