from Two Crones and a Microphone · host Betty deMaye-Caruth & Linda Shreve

Intro: Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. We are cultural midwives and a force for change using applied practical spirituality. We have been friends and colleagues for over 35 years.  We will talk about wisdom practices we use in daily life.Podcast overview  – This is our 10th podcast and the topic is Creating Intentional Downtime and is a follow-up from How we Reset, podcast No. 9. We will speak about why it is important to each of us, how to share with our families and friends and how to establish a practice for the New Year or at any time you need to rest or recuperate.  Betty - We will share practices and processes you can use in daily life at home, work and play.  Pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea, a pen and paper and let’s get started.  Settle into your body, listen and see what you can use in your life. WHY INTENTIONAL DOWNTIME? Linda - We are cyclical beings, with a built-in need to rest. We all know that the cycles of night and day, of rest and sleep are important for our health and wellbeing. Our bodies are hard-wired to need sleep, for example. We tend to focus in our culture on the cycle of exertion – and push away the need to recuperate.  One way to be sure we get time to recuperate, rest, reflect and have fun/play, is to Create Intentional Downtime for yourself and others. I like the structure of a commitment to downtime – but I often blow through my own plan for it!  It is a practice, like any other.  In some ways this is an anti-goal – to commit to the moment, to play, to nature, to art, to awareness. I like to keep a playful attitude about it and look for micro-moments to recuperate.  SOMETIMES a deadline helps us discover a recuperative practice,  For me about 7 years ago, I had a knee injury – and realized that I absolutely needed at least 30 minutes of recuperative time with my leg propped up each evening.  I have continued that to this day.Betty – What does Intentional downtime mean? It is hard for me sometimes (Betty tell story) – there are lots of possibilities – The number one way to create downtime – take a minute or 2 to ground.  Listen to our first podcast on Grounding for ideas and practices.  Sometimes just that 1-2 minutes makes a world of difference!Tell us what you think!
