She is sacred to several Southwest Native American tribesincluding the Hopi, Pueblo peoples, Apache and Navaho. Her stories abound and she is known by many names including Spider Grandmother and Spider Woman. Sussitanako, Her native name translates as Thinking Woman or Thought Woman, and soon as she thought of a thing, it sprang into existence. She spun a Web from East to West, from North to South, then sang a song so very deep and sweet that all beings spring into existence with Her song.
