Postpartum Stories: Motherhood Understood

from The Juna Moms Podcast · host Juna Moms Podcast

Sarah talks to Jen Schwartz from Motherhood Understood.  Jen had a fairly straightforward path to becoming a Mom, but when she brought her son home from the hospital, everything turned. She fell into deep postpartum depression and her mom and husband took over the parenting duties *while she cried in bed.  Jen shares the not so pretty side of the role we are taught to believe comes naturally when we decide it’s time to start a family. For her, it took a whole year, lots of therapy and medication, just to adjust to her new life as mom.  Jen’s goal with sharing her story so openly is to help Moms feel less alone if they are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings, and let them know there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Her message: "1 in 5 moms are taken down by pregnancy and postpartum mental health issues during and following childbirth, but those of us who are suffering are pretty sure nobody hears, or even sees us."
