UK-based record label Sound Du Jour continues its run of eclectic electronic releases with its 11th outing, welcoming back Andy Ash for a two-track release titled Star, arriving September 4th. Founded and run by UK DJ and producer La Mano, Sound Du Jour has spent the past five years building a diverse catalogue that moves freely between electro, Italo, house, breaks and beyond. Since launching in 2021 with La Mano’s Tarvisio EP, the label has developed a distinctive identity centred around quality production, individual artistry and a willingness to explore different corners of electronic music. Its growing catalogue has welcomed artists including MAN2.0, Andy Ash, Marcus Christiansen, Gelato, Vyvyan, Tasteless Talk and Dharma, alongside remixes and contributions from names such as Man Power, PBR Streetgang, Venice Arms and Neil Diablo. Rather than adhering to a single sound, Sound Du Jour has established itself as a home for music that shares a common sense of character, experimentation and dancefloor intent. Continuing that ethos, Sound Du Jour now reaches its 11th release with the return of Andy Ash, whose new two-tracker Star delivers two productions that draw from classic electronic influences while retaining a contemporary club sensibility. The title track, Star, opens with a retro-inspired breakbeat and arpeggiated synth line before shifting into a driving four-to-the-floor groove, underpinned by a weighty acid bassline. As the arrangement develops, bright synths and atmospheric pads gradually expand the track’s sound, introducing flashes of euphoria before dropping back into its gritty, club-focused core. The track balances tension and release, bringing together vintage electronic textures with a distinctly modern dancefloor energy. On the flip, Jericho takes a more hypnotic approach, built around rolling basslines and sustained synths that gradually ratchet up the tension. As the track progresses, a hefty, gliding synth lead emerges, bringing a distinctly vintage electronic character to the production while maintaining the track’s relentless forward momentum. Together, Star and Jericho showcase the kind of eclectic, genre-fluid electronic music that has become central to the Sound Du Jour catalogue. Andy Ash’s latest contribution draws on the sounds of electronic music’s past while shaping them into two focused productions built for contemporary dancefloors.
