PREMIERE : Baychimo - Surf

from Les Yeux Orange · host Les Yeux Orange

Woodland Creatures is pleased to present Personality Computer, the latest album from Danish producer Baychimo and the third release in the label’s 2026 Biome series. Each release in the series is paired with a distinct global ecosystem, with Personality Computer representing the California Chaparral and Woodlands biome. Baychimo, the alias of Danish producer and composer Frederik Meyer has spent over a decade crafting richly nostalgic electronic music that blends sophisticated rhythmic programming, lush synth textures, and psychedelic sound design. On Personality Computer, Meyer delivers a vibrant love letter to the dawn of the internet age, drawing inspiration from Windows ’95, early online culture, and the optimistic spirit of late 1990s and early 2000s IDM. Balancing widescreen grooves, shoegaze inflected atmospheres, jazz tinted melodies, and glitch fuelled club energy, the album captures the sense of discovery that defined the early days of personal computing. While steeped in nostalgia, Personality Computer remains firmly forward looking, showcasing Baychimo’s fluid approach to genre and sound design. From the gently disorienting opener “Terms of Service” to the immersive world building of 'Paint.exe' and '3D Maze,' the record unfolds as a richly detailed digital landscape. Highlights include the infectious “Chat Request,” the expansive “Surf,” and “Fisher Price PC,” featuring Danish pianist and composer Malthe Jepsen on bass and keyboards. WLC’s releases are often organised into thematic series, and the label’s 2026 cycle, Biome, sees each record paired with a distinct ecosystem from around the world. Personality Computer has been designated the California Chaparral and Woodlands biome, reflecting both its sun soaked West Coast sensibility and its conceptual ties to the San Francisco Bay Area, the home of Silicon Valley and many of the technologies that helped shape the modern online world. The result is a colourful, inventive, and deeply engaging work that celebrates a moment of technological optimism through Baychimo’s unmistakable sonic lens.
