PREMIERE: Black Light Smoke - The Basement (EBM Mix) [DDM19]

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Black Light Smoke. "The Basement (EBM Mix)" comes off the new EP of the same name, forthcoming on Chicago's Death Decay Magic. The release is built around multiple evolutions of a track that has already become a standout in his live sets. An alias of Emmy Award-winning composer, producer, and musician Jordan Lieb, Black Light Smoke operates between house, techno, minimal synth, and post-punk. In its original form The Basement is a tense, driving cut powered by snapping drums, distorted electro synths, and deadpan vocals that lend a cold sense of disillusionment. The ‘Vocal Dub’ strips things back while leaning further into EBM territory through angular rhythms, aggressive synth work, and sleazy undertones sharpened by flashes of cowbell, before the ‘Club Mix’ closes the release in full late-night mode, pairing convulsive drums with frazzled textures and metallic synth pressure for a raw and chaotic finish.
