Liminal Shapes: ‘’In the summer of 2022 the athletes of the Squamish Highliner community of British Columbia came together to rig B.C.'s longest highlines. Jannik Jivung provides Inbound with a cinematic 6 track EP to complement the stunning scenes and majestic moments of their documentary film with an epic soundscape. Above The Ground' marks Jivung’s debut release and invites the listener to get familiar with his signature sound which blends analogue and digital vintage synthesizers with acoustic instruments resulting in organic textures and evolving soundscapes. All tracks where composed and produced by Jivung with additional composition by Guillaume Richards, Johannes Wehrle and Marc-Andre Beauchemin, and mixed by him and his long-time collaborator and studio partner Per Hammar.’’ ‘Mountain Calling Us’ leads the release, perfectly setting the tone with a subtly nuanced drone intertwined with ethereal pad textures before ‘Coming Home’ shifts focus to elongated sub bass tones, shimmering plucked strings and cinematic leads. ‘Sunset Walk/Northern Lights’ then edges further into the modern classical world via emotive piano melodies, unfurling synth pads and haunting atmospherics. ‘Focus’ follows, introducing the first rhythmic component of the project with a sturdy 4/4 rhythm flowing in combination with metallic drum tones and delicate chimes. The aptly titled ‘Adrenaline Rush’ comes next, starting off with a tension building drone before building to a crescendo of arpeggio bass and crisp drums. The ‘Liminal (Synth Only Mix)’ then rounds out the release, diving back into deeper realms with crackling synth flutters, ever shifting synth tones and a dynamic atmosphere throughout.
