PREMIERE : Modis - A piece of sun

from Les Yeux Orange · host Les Yeux Orange

"Capsule” is the debut album from Modis, the new solo project of Argentinian producer Rafael Caivano (a.k.a. Frikstailers, a.k.a. Klik & Frik). The album will be released on Latinambient, the newly launched label curated by Populous. In this LP, Modis draws inspiration from some of the great unconventional classics of electronic music, from Mort Garson (Mother Earth’s Plantasia) to Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin’s most emotional work. Each song in Capsule opens a dialogue between past and present, moving through sounds that blur the line between the organic and the digital, the polished and the beautifully imperfect. The expressive sound of bamboo flutes and synthetic harps in the first half of the album carries you into the strangest Asian landscapes, and then the journey drifts toward places you can’t quite pin on a map. The album’s overall sound carries an almost tactile warmth, with woody textures and a deliberate layer of dust that makes it feel intimate and nostalgic. The release of Capsule will be preceded by a Populous remix, giving a dancefloor oriented twist to the album’s closing track. The artwork and the whole graphic concept was created by the Milan based artist and illustrator Alessandro Cripsta, by following Modis inspirations and landscapes. In Modis' own words: Capsule explores those moments when our perception of the ordinary turns into a profound revelation, bringing a new dimension to our existence that makes it feel whole. It's about when the routine doesn't hurt, but it feels like a chosen, bright quest. First Single Out on 17th April, “A piece of sun” is the first single from Modis’ forthcoming debut album, Capsule, set for release on Latinambient - the newly launched label curated by Populous - on June 12th. Digital harps, erratic synth melodies, and an almost liquid quality of electronic sound evolve throughout the track, weaving a sweet yet subtly intricate story. In Modis' own words: A piece of sun coming through my window can turn my life around sometimes. With a ray of sun, the air widens, the world loosens its grip, and it feels lighter. As if that warmth knew exactly where to land, as a reminder that, even if you are lost in your mental fog, there’s something in you that still listens.
