Buy here : https://placidum.bandcamp.com/album/neptune Paris based artist Shcaa returns to his Placidum imprint this May with the four-track ‘Neptune’ EP, showcasing his abstract twist on contemporary electronic music. Over the past decade Shcaa’s works have found a home on the likes of Sharingtones, Automatic Writing, Blank Slate and Apollo among others, his signature sound encapsulates intricate layering, dynamic details and subtle nuance all the same. Here with this new EP and the continuation of his fledgling label, Placidum, Shcaa expands on his roots and long standing relationship with club music, while also unveiling a hidden substance beyond the dance factor through musical experimentation. Opening the EP is ‘Her Conscious Drift To Neptune’s Frozen Reliefs’, a haunting slice of micro tinged house fuelled by a jazzy rhythm, modulating synth melodies, wandering bass tones and expansive atmospheric swells. ‘Leviatano’ follows next and wanders into dubtinged territory via an amalgamation of stab sequences, hazy textures, shuffled percussion and hypnotic vocal chants.‘Where Have We Met’ follows next to open the latter half of the release, seeing Shcaa sonically diverge into a melancholic ambient world through unfurling synth lines, plucked psychedelic strings and processed voices. Title-cut ‘Neptune’ then rounds out the EP, a billowing excursion through bubbling synth flutters, swaying echoes, spiralling dub echoes and metallic flutters. This release resonates with several of the artists’ endeavours /obsessions. An aquatic quality both in the poetic imageries and evolving structures.
