Preserve the Beat : Digitizing TRIBE Magazine's Canadian Music Odyssey
from Cannabis Goldsmith - A Show About Art and Design · host TRIBE
I will be talking about the technical aspects and complexities of photographic film digitization on today's show. On Monday April 22 I'm launching an indiegogo campaign called PRESERVE THE BEAT to raise the funds to digitize the massive TRIBE MAGAZINE photographic archive. It's a huge job: there are over 10,000 images as slides and negatives in the collection. There is nothing like this collection in the world. It's nearly a complete look at Canadian electronic music & DJ culture, from the inside, from a time before smartphones. It's the record of a lost civilization, the birth of digital music, and the story of electronic music in Canada. But more than that, it's our family pictures. And you might be in them too if you went to a rave or warehouse party back in the day! Digitizing these images will facilitate the publication of books, documentary films, gallery shows, and online galleries, and their eventual bequeath-al to three large Canadian art entities, for archival preservation. I want to cement our culture into Canada's historical record because I think Canadians of the future may need to see it for authentic hope and inspiration. I need your help! Please share the campaign link below with 4 people you went to raves or warehouse parties with back in the day. Tell them to sign up for PRESERVE THE BEAT campaign updates on the website and encourage them to donate to this important project when the campaign launches next week (April 22, 2024). There's a 7 min video on the page, below, where I describe what this project is about. Please watch. He's the main campaign URL https://preservethebeat.com Thank you for helping to PRESERVE THE BEAT!
