President's Day - History with Bill Federer of The American Minute George Washington was born on February 22nd. Americans wanting to celebrate his legacy and memory sought to have a specific day on the calendar to celebrate George Washington. Later, Abraham Lincoln was added, as his birthday was February 12th.  In 1971, The Uniform Monday Holiday Act, moved it to a Monday in February for All President's Day.
