Send us Fan MailThe Presto Sparkling Rose' is a $9.99 Whole Foods North American exclusive made from the Lagrein and Raboso grapes grown in the Veneto and Trentino regions of northern Italy. Trentino and Veneto are well known for Alto Adige (Pinot Grigio) and Prosecco regions.Lagrein and Raboso are local grapes that are popular in Italy, you can find these grapes as single varietal wines at a wine shop with a good Italian section. Presto also makes a Prosecco and a Lambrusco, they seem to specialize in value-priced Italian Bubbly.Even though the Presto Sparkling Rose' seems to be produced in the same general area as Prosecco it can not be called Prosecco Rose'. Prosecco is a very specific wine, a Sparkling wine made with the Charmat Method using the Glera grape. They are very protective of their brand, so this is not Prosecco but Sparkling Rose'.In Italy Sparkling wine is called Spumante, it is the Italian word for Bubbly. Prosecco and Champagne are both Spumante but are more well-known for their brand names. Spumante in the US is synonymous with inexpensive, sweet Sparkling wines from the Asti region. So even though this should be a Spumante they use Sparkling wine to avoid any negative connections.A Rose' gets its pale pink color when the grapes are crushed the skins are left in the tank for a couple for hours and are removed when the desired color is reached. While the tasting notes do not specify the method the second fermentation was likely the Charmat Method or large pressurized tanks. The alcohol content is 11.5%.Presto Sparkling Rose' Tasting NotesThe color is a salmon pink and there are plenty of bubbles. The nose is a mix of cherry, lemon/lime, grapefruit, and dried strawberry. Very light and delicate. This an Extra Dry Bubbly which means slightly sweet, but there is enough acidity to counter the sugar. It tastes of crisp, sour cherry, a splash of minerality, tart apple, and tangerine. The mid-palate adds a salty, nutty sensation, a hint of vanilla, and tart cranberry. The acidity is well-balanced, this is a light, crisp, refreshingly Sparkling Rose'.The SummaryThe Presto Sparkling Rose' gets the job done. Well priced, very tasty, and well-made. There is not much you can ask for at this price range. If you enjoy a glass of Prosecco you will like the Presto Sparkling Rose'. Many of the same elements that make Prosecco so attractive are on display, but with a different, but pleasing flavor profile.Photo by Anthony DELANOIX on UnsplashCheck us out at www.cheapwinefinder.comor email us at [email protected]
