[PREVIEW] 🎙🧚♀️ #069 - Armageddon
from Commentary Fairy
Michael Bay's worst movie, according to Michael Bay (has he seen his other ones?), is Deep Impact's worst nightmare: another movie about a space rock heading for Earth, releasing less than two months later, with a bigger budget and bigger stars. Fortunately, Armageddon takes an entirely different approach to the premise and turns it into an action movie about drilling, along the way providing the greatest love ballad about FOMO ever written by Liv Tyler's surprise dad. Discussed in this episode: Australia's beautifully-named deserts Editing on speed Tommy Lee Jones not marrying Pamela Anderson Ben Affleck almost logic-policing himself out of the film What came first to this movie - Liv Tyler or her dad, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith? Mystery SOLVED. Leftover Deep Impact issues - comet drilling was proved ultimately unnecessary; the Biedermans were lying jerkholes. "Japan and Australia will be wiped out by the wave" - did the screenwriter know or care that Australia is 20 times bigger than Japan? Space: the final patent-free frontier Oil driller = ex-con. Bay's well-documented un-chillness that belies his hair Got Michael? Peanut butter choking fear Bruce Willis' countdown to full-blown baldness Owen Wilson - career cowboy Gatling guns, in case there's a Predator on the asteroid Red telephone = direct line to POTUS What really happened to Notre Dame Small-scale Extinction Level Events Wrenches (the saviour of Earth was an inanimate carbon rod) Which is the better space rock movie with straw drawing?
