Private Finance Hospitals

from HAYDN PRICE Hosted by haydnprice

PFI Hospitals Sheffield The Private Finance Initiative (PFI for short) was a UK government policy aimed at creating "Public Private Partnerships" where private firms were contracted to complete and manage public projects. First started in 1992 by conservative Prime Minister John Major and expanded by the Labour Blair government, PFI was part of the wider programme of privatisation and financialisation and presented as a means for increasing accountability and efficiency for public spending. In Sheffield it was hoped to use PFI to build a new women's hospital. I visited the site for BBC Radio 4 You and Yours.
