PROFESSOR OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND MASTERS PROGRAMME COORDINATOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AND QUANTITY SURVEYING, UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURGProfessor Wellington Didibhuku Thwala is a Professor of Construction Project Management and Masters Programme Coordinator at the Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, University of Johannesburg. Professor Thwala has been involved in the project management of various infrastructure projects for clients such as the City of Tshwane and City of Johannesburg. Prior to this, he worked for the Independent Development Trust as a Development Specialist where he was involved in the implementation of various infrastructure projects.Professor Thwala is the past Vice President of The South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) and President of the Association of Schools of Construction Southern Africa. Former Non-Executive Director of the Johannesburg Social Housing Company up to March 2016. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of the Gautrain Management Agency since 2012. He also serves on the Human Resources Committee and Chairman of the Social Ethics committee. Professor Thwala is also the Non-Executive Director of the Johannesburg Development Agency since 2012. He also serves on the Development and Risk Committee and Human Resources and Remuneration committee. He is also a Non-Executive Director of the Ports Regulator of South Africa (PRSA) since 2014. He is also a Council Member of Ekurhuleni TVET College since 2014. He has a Master of Science in Development Planning, Master of Science in Engineering and PhD specialising in Civil Engineering (Wits University). He also hold a certificate in Management Development Programme and a Certificate in Economic Regulation of Public Entity (University of Florida).Professor Thwala also serves in the following committees: Member of the University of Johannesburg Senate, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Higher Degrees Committee, Member of the Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction TG65: Management of Small Construction Firms.Professor Thwala has more than 170 published and peer-reviewed journals, chapters in books and conference proceedings locally and internationally. He has supervised over 50 Masters and PhD students. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Construction Project Management and Innovation which is accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
