Protection Against Men
from A Word in Season: Messages by R.J. Rushdoony on the Faith for All of Life · host R.J. Rushdoony
People are often a problem to us through their sin and folly, and our own and many become obsessed with protecting themselves, their churches, groups, and communities from fools and knaves. Yet no system can fully eliminate the potential for sin as long as humans are present; excessive concern for protection itself becomes a sin. In the early church, some congregations tried to weed out every weak or apostate member after persecutions, but those strict churches perished, while those that required only a profession of faith and dealt with sin through godly discipline survived and thrived. They expected perfection from God alone, not from men, and focused on faithful service rather than self-protection. We can never fully shield ourselves from others or from ourselves but the priority is to “do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31) and seek first His kingdom and righteousness (Matt. 6:33). When we put God first, He becomes our surest defense. #ProtectionAgainstMen #SeekFirstTheKingdom #ServeGodFaithfull
