Psychoneuroimmunology: A Candid Conversation with Dr. Jerrod Brown

from Living with FASD · host Patricia Kasper

Living with FASD podcast is an educational and human interest show with the purpose of educating listeners not only about facts and aspects of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, but also of conveying the experiences of living with FASD, through candid conversations with a variety of people, many of whom are also living with FASD. This week's Candid Conversation is with Dr. Jerrod Brown. Jerrod Brown, Ph.D., M.A., M.S., M.S., M.S., is a professor, trainer, researcher, and consultant with multiple years of experience teaching collegiate courses. Jerrod is also the founder and CEO of the American Institute for the Advancement of Forensic Studies (AIAFS). Jerrod has completed four separate master’s degree programs and holds graduate certificates in Neuropsychology, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Other Health Disabilities (OHD), and Traumatic-Brain Injuries (TBI). In 2021, Jerrod completed a post-doctoral certificate in Leadership and Organizational Strategy from Walden University and a Professional Certificate in Forensic Psychology from San Diego State University Global Campus. Currently, Jerrod is pursuing a graduate certificate in Neuroscience and the Law from Michigan State University. Jerrod has also published in several peer-reviewed journals, has been quoted in various magazines and newspapers, and has appeared in two documentaries related to the topic of FASD. Jerrod is also regularly featured on several national and international podcast programs, and I am beyond thrilled that Living with FASD will join the list of shows talking with Dr. Brown on a regular basis! The topic of discussion this week is psychoneuroimmunology and FASD. Dr. Brown shares why this is such an important topic, and a similar one - psychoneuroendocrinimmunology. In a nutshell, every aspect of our being is interrelated - our emotions, our gut health, our immune system, our brain function... it's all interconnected. Dr. Brown also makes a Call to Action for any researcher who may be listening to pick up the torch and do even more research into this field, as more understanding is needed. If this discussion raises questions for you, feel free to send them to me, and when Dr. Brown returns, we'll see about getting those questions answered! Likewise, if there are other topics about FASD you would like covered in future episodes, send me your ideas! If you would just like to say hello and let me know what this show means to you, I would welcome that as well. If you have felt isolated due to FASD either in you, or in your child, or if after listening you are wondering if prenatal exposure to alcohol may explain some of the struggles in your life, please join the Facebook community: Living with FASD Podcast.
