PTSD Episode 1 - “Welcome to Mortaritaville”
from Motivate with Coach Camp · host Coach Camp
Each year millions of Americans are diagnosed with some form of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and likely millions more that never report symptoms. While there have been major strides in mental health awareness and treatment, there are still tons we about the disorder that is unknown or misunderstood. Unlike a health issue with someone heart where a doctor can have concrete signs that lead to a proper diagnosis, the brain is a very abstract organ that has a complexity which matches the population on earth. Sure there are “common” signs and symptoms, but the blunt reality is, every person is wired a little different and what works for one person doesn’t mean that the same thing will work for the next person. While we as a society may not have all the reasons and rhyme as to why and how PTSD can impact some but not others, the one thing that we can do as a society is, be sympathetic and compassionate. This week’s guest, Ryan Duren, shares with my listeners how two deployments to the Middle East during the Afghanistan War, left him shell shocked and struggling for answers. Tune in to hear how Ryan fought through his depression, anger issues and feelings of suicide, to go on to find the love of his life and through his new found love they proceeded to open a business together. Ryan’s story of patriotism, sacrifice, hardships and never quit attitude will certainly give you a whole new perspective on what it means to serve your country.
