Thomas Attig: Expert Insights on Managing Grief and Finding Solace

From Pain to Peace: Expert Insights on Managing Grief and Finding Solace.  My guest this week is Mr. Thomas Attig, A Philosopher, Professor and Author of numerous books about understanding and managing grief. “You don’t have to be okay to be healing – grief is a messy, beautiful process.” ~ Unknown   My guest this week hails from Victoria, Canada.  Mr. Thomas Attig has dedicated his life’s work to better understanding the grieving process and how people learn to cope with great loss. Mr. Attig explains that he had a lot of experience with death growing up because he came from a large family.  Losing loved ones never became easy to him, but he became better at working through the pain.  One reason for this was his ability to better understand what he was feeling and why he was feeling it. We talk about the much talked about, “5 stages” of grief.  Those being denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.  While it is certainly reasonable to have any one of these stages or even all of them, it is not always necessarily the case.  Sense everyone is wired differently and death comes to people from a lot of ways and at all different ages, you simply cannot broad brush how everyone one will go through grief. We discuss some of the things that one must hold true to themselves when grieving and other possible emotions one might experience.  If you are interested in learning more about Mr. Attig’s philosophies and approaches you can find his books on Amazon and his most recent book, “Seeking Wisdom in Death’s Shadows” by going to Oxford University Press and you can use the promo code AUFLY30 to get 30% off. Michael House: A Candid Conversation About the Realities of Adoption

The Unspoken Challenges: A Candid Conversation About the Realities of Adoption.  My guest this week is Mr. Michael House, A Firefighter/Paramedic with the city of Southaven, MS “Adoption is not a last resort, it’s a first choice for a forever love.” ~ Unknown   As most of you know, the decision to start a family can be both an exciting and scary time all wrapped up together.  Knowing that you will have a person on this planet that will be solely reliant on you for everything is perhaps the most important decision you will ever make. My guest this week describes how he and his wife set out with a goal having three kids, but after their second child things took a turn.  Having had two children without any issues the couple had no reason to fear trying for a third.  However, it was on her third pregnancy that she suddenly faced some complications. Statistics show that nearly half of all pregnancies end with a miscarriage.  This is a national average with those statistics being much higher in some countries.  Suddenly the House family found themselves falling victim to becoming a statistic. Michael shares how over the next few years they ended up having 4 total miscarriages and the fear of trying again had overtaken their will to try again.  This reality didn’t change the fact that they still wanted to have a third child so they took the next steps to inquire about the process of adoption.  We take a deep look at all of the hurdles they faced and the overwhelming cost that is associated with adoption. It became apparent that adoption is not for the faint of heart, but as Michael shares, he has no regrets at all, so much so that he and his wife have decided to move forward with adopting their daughters half-brother.  If you or someone you know are looking at adoption you will definitely want to check this episode out and if you are interested in helping the House’s reach their funding goal to adopt their daughters little brother you can donate at their GoFundMe @ “Bring Baby House Home” Please continue to listen and support this podcast and be sure to check out my social media content on my website MotivateWithCoachCamp.com  Also, if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor of this podcast please click the link below to learn more.  This episode was recorded at SRP Studios and Produced by Shelby Row Productions LLC ShelbyRowProductions.com   👉 SPONSOR THIS PODCAST -  https://bit.ly/443wPRj 🔗 WEBSITE - http://www.motivatewithcoachcamp.com 📺 WATCH - YouTube and Facebook 🎧 LISTEN - Apple and Spotify   This episode was recorded at SRP Studios and Produced by Shelby Row Productions LLC SRPStudiosLLC.com

Ambleside School in Nesbit: Hannah Hatcher and Krista Dornier

Learning Without Limits: Exploring the Innovative Approach of Ambleside’s Hybrid Schooling.  My guests this week are Mrs. Hannah Hatcher and Krista Dornier, Employees of the Ambleside School in Nesbit, MS. “Faith is an oasis in the heart which will never be reached by the caravan of thinking.” ~ K. Gilbran   One of the most important things we do as parents is ensure that our kids get a quality education to prepare them for their future.  My guests this week explain the uniqueness of the school they both work at and how they were drawn to this particular school. The Ambleside school was originally founded by the 19th century British educator Charlotte Mason.  Her vision was to create a faith based school that focused on character formation, habit training, nature study and artistic appreciation.  Her goal was to keep the classrooms small and make it a more intimate setting to really hone in on each individual students specific needs.  There are only 19 Ambleside schools in the United States and the one in Nesbit, MS. is unique in its own right.  It is the only one of the 19 that happens to be a hybrid of home school and in class instruction. Hannah and Krista share how Ambleside has impacted their personal lives with their own children.  The ability to watch their children grow in ways they never imagined, has solidified why they trusted Ambleside for their children’s education. We discuss the variety of teaching styles and topics that Ambleside covers and how the classes are interchangeable with those things that are taught is public schools.  If you would like to learn more about what Ambleside offers you can reach out to them at www.amblesidehernando.com or [email protected] Please continue to listen and support this podcast and be sure to check out my social media content on my website MotivateWithCoachCamp.com  Also, if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor of this podcast please click the link below to learn more.

Swim, Bike, Run, Repeat:  The Mental and Physical Grind of My Ironman Triathlon Quest

Swim, Bike, Run, Repeat:  The Mental and Physical Grind of My Ironman Triathlon Quest.  In this week’s episode I share with my viewers my year long journey to completing Ironman Louisville! “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” ~ T. S. Eliot   Personal growth can happen when we allow ourselves to push further than we ever dreamed possible.  There came a time in my life where I started seeking out incredible challenges to see what I might be capable of actually doing.  Part of my journey was tied to my job as a firefighter/paramedic.  Another part of my journey was pursuing a higher education.  However, it was my physical journey that I found myself being challenged in ways that I never had dreamed possible. After having ran over a dozen marathons I decided it was time to challenge myself in a huge way and committed myself to training for and running an Ironman Triathlon.  If you are not aware of what that entails it is, a 2 ½ mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run, 140.6 total miles. In this episode I share how I had to take the first 6 months to simply learn how to distance swim and ride on a tri-bike.  Every step of the way took total focus and I developed a mindset that would allow me to see anything other than success.  My goal for sharing with my audience about my personal achievement of Ironman is, the hope of inspiring others out there to go for something bigger than they have ever dreamed of. This experience changed me in ways that I would have never gotten otherwise.  It taught me how to have impeccable time management, extreme determination, incredible flexibility to life and above all, how anything can be possible when you go all in on something.  If you would like to see my wife’s journey to her completing her Ironman you can watch her 6 episodes on YouTube.  The channel is called, “Southern Ironmom”.  You can also go to my website www.motivatewithcoachcamp.com for other inspirational and motivational content. PTSD: Kevin Whitsell | Paramedic Pedi Flight Manager

PTSD: The Unspoken Epidemic Among First Responders.  My guest this week is Mr. Kevin Whitsell, Paramedic Pedi Flight Manager and Podcast Host of “A Silent War Within”. “PTSD was my darkness, self-care was my dawn – I rose again.” ~ Unknown   One of my true joys that have come from podcasting has been the opportunity to connect with amazing people and share their personal stories of trials and triumphs. This week’s guest has chosen to take that same opportunity, but he has chosen to keep it centric to helping first responders face and cope with PTSD or as some call it, PTS(I) for injury.   As a paramedic and now Pedi-Flight Manager, my guest Kevin Whitsell has seen his fair share of harrowing calls.  We take a step back to see what roads led Kevin to first getting involved in EMS and how the years took their toll.  Then we take a look at how he decided to take action helping those dealing with PTSD by giving them a voice on his podcast. Kevin describes how he has seen his podcast create real healing by just allowing someone to tell their story. As he put it, “sometimes people just want to be heard and know that they are not alone in their struggle.”  Finding help is the number one thing you can do if you are struggling with PTSD and knowing that there can be a better tomorrow when you have the right tools and resources.  If you or someone you know may be struggling with PTSD you can reach out to the Don’t Struggle Alone Hotline at 1-888-610-9279. George Argeropoulos | Testicular Cancer Survivor and Autism Warrior

Testicular Cancer and Neurodiversity: A Personal Story About Pursing a Passion and Embracing a Journey.  My guest this week is Mr. George Argeropoulos, Testicular Cancer Survivor and Autism Warrior. “It is not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit.” ~ J. R. R. Tolkien In this week’s episode we tackle two very big topics that both deserve our attention.  My guest this week is Mr. George Argeropoulos and by trade he is an IT Technician at FedEx.  However, what brought us together has nothing to do with IT. Originally, Mr. George was asked to come on the show to share his passion for Autism Acceptance and how he helped to bring about the first annual Reconnect for Autism event in Corinth, MS.  Then, before we could meet for our podcast George was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to have immediate surgery to remove the affected testicle. We have a very open and honest conversation about the need for more education on checking for testicular cancer and how a simple check can save your life.  Early detection can make all the difference in the world.  George exclaims that this will now be a part of his message for the rest of his life. In addition to his new found mission, George has always had a heart for Autism and that is what inspired him to put together the first annual music festival in Corinth, MS to raise money and awareness.  George has a heart for others and I know that you will see this through our conversation. Laura Carpenter | Dyslexia Therapist and Certified Academic Language Therapist

Beyond Labels: A Deep Dive into Dyslexia – Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Solutions.  My guest this week is Ms. Laura Carpenter, Dyslexia Therapist and Certified Academic Language Therapist. “Dyslexia is not a disability, it’s a different ability – and mine became my superpower.” ~ Unknown   The world can be a difficult challenge for anyone to navigate.  Regardless of where you come from or what resources you have available to you, we all must learn how to process information and respond appropriately.  This ability to process the information in front of you can more challenging for some and this week we take a look at one of those communities that have extra obstacles in this area. My guest is therapist Laura Carpenter and she found her calling after many years of teaching in the Special Education programs in DeSoto County schools.  Throughout her career she had witnessed individuals written off because of their lack of ability to grasp information and apply what they had been taught. What she realized was there were a lot of misconceptions and false beliefs as it applied to certain learning disabilities and she made it her mission to learn as much as she could and help as many people as she could.  Ms. Carpenter shares with my listeners the many different aspects of dyslexia and how it affects individuals, as well as how the process happens to diagnose someone and possible treatments. Ms. Carpenter also shares some personal stories of success and how she stays inspired through her clients and what it means to see someone grow and find new strengths that they never thought they had.  You will leave with a much broader understanding of what dyslexia is and what tools you can gain if you have been diagnosed yourself.  If you want to learn more you can go to her website at www.desotodyslexia.com or call at 901-827-9763. From Victim to Visionary: How I Turned My Pain into a Haven for Others.  My guest this week is Ms. Sarita Drake, Executive Director of the nonprofit organization, “House of Grace.” “I do not at all understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.” ~ A. Lamott Over the last 3 seasons of the Motivate with Coach Camp podcast, we have covered an incredible variety of notable topics.  One of my true joys of doing this podcast is knowing that we are able to give a louder voice to some very important issues and highlight some amazing organizations, and this week we are able to do both. My guest is Ms. Sarita Drake and she is the Executive Director of the nonprofit, House of Grace.  This is a nonprofit organization that provides free shelter to victims and children that are trying to escape domestic violence situations.  Statistics show that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime. In this episode we dive into how Ms. Sarita’s personal story of domestic violence that started in her childhood followed her into her adult life.  Ms. Sarita explains that when she finally realized at the age of 50 she had to make a change, her change was going to involve helping others  find a way out. We cover how she was able to do that and how that laid the path for her to use her mess to become her message.  Through her faith in God and the resources at The House of Grace Ms. Sarita has been helping repair lives for over a decade now.  You won’t want to miss this incredible story!  If you or someone you know is dealing with domestic abuse you can call the 24 hour crisis hotline at 662-342-1432.  If you would like to learn more about the House of Grace nonprofit you can visit them on their website www.houseofgracedv.org Please continue to listen and support this podcast and be sure to check out my social media content on my website MotivateWithCoachCamp.com  Also, if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor of this podcast please click the link below to learn more.

Marcus Black: Turning Personal Pain into Powerful Messages

From Victim to Visionary: Turning Personal Pain into Powerful Messages.  My guest this week is Mr. Marcus Black, He is an Author, a Podcaster and a Motivational Speaker. “Speak to inspire, inspire to empower – That’s the power of motivational speaking.” ~ Unknown   Having gone down the road of becoming a positive voice and motivational speaker myself, I can truly appreciate the grind to make a name for yourself.  So when you come across someone that has been living that same grind you don’t hesitate to make a connection. My guest this week is Mr. Marcus Black and he is from my town right here in Hernando, MS.  When he posted a comment stating that he wanted to connect with the community it seemed like destiny that we would meet.  Mr. Black and I discuss how life’s pitfalls can sometimes be the best things that happen to us.  It’s all about how you receive the moment that determines what comes next in your life. Mr. Black shares how his difficult childhood and his troubled youth eventually molded the person that he was always meant to be, and when he decided to just take a chance doors started to open.  He admits that he was a quiet and reserved person for most of his life, so when he was being led to become a public speaker he wasn’t exactly comfortable being the center of attention.  Our conversation takes us down a path that wasn’t always glamorous, but it was exactly the path that laid the foundation of what was to come. I can honestly say, if you don’t come away from this episode feeling fired up and ready to take on the world then you are not looking to find your why in this world.  If you want to learn more about Marcus or find his books, you can follow him of IG @‌mblackspeaks and you can find his books, “Asleep at the Wheel” and “Because You Can” on Amazon. Justin Gray: former firefighter, now turned motivational content influencer

The Pivot Point: How Changing My Mindset Changed My Entire Life.  My guest this week is Mr. Justin Gray, former firefighter now turned motivational content influencer. “Change your thoughts, change your life – mindset is everything.” ~ Unknown Over the years I’ve known plenty of people that will vocalize how they are tired of the same ole life with the same ole results.  The funny thing is, most of them never do anything about their situation.  Then for some of those that actually decide to take action toward their issues they only make those changes for a short amount of time before falling back into their old ways. My guest this week was one of those people that went through the motions for a period of time knowing their needed to be a different approach, but he just never took the first step…until he did.  Mr. Gray dives into the mindset shift that sent him into an entirely different direction in his life and how suddenly he found clarity in areas where there had previously been confusion. Mr. Gray’s way of dissecting simple thought patterns and his practical advice on how to approach common problems will be at the very least motivating and at the most, life transforming.  Mr. Gray attributes his new found success in life to his ability to just stay consistent, regardless of how he feels physically.  Just showing up and giving your best, even when you are not at your best it is critical that you give your best.  Life is short and we only get this one shot it, so don’t waste it.  You can follow Justin and learn more about his journey by following him @‌JTGray on FB. Addiction to Awakening: Felicia Pulliam’s Powerful Story of Sobriety and Transformation

Addiction to Awakening: A Powerful Story of Sobriety and Transformation.  My guest this week is Ms. Felicia Pulliam, former addict and now a health care provider and advocate for sobriety. “Recovery is not about being perfect, it’s about being brave enough to try again.” ~ Unknown I feel like it is fair to say that no one wakes up one day and says to themselves, “I think I will become addicted to drugs today and then they go out and try to ruin my life”.   It is more likely that an individual finds themselves in a tough situation and they make a bad decision that suddenly takes over their life. That is what happened to my guest, Ms. Felicia Pulliam.  Having a lifetime of difficulties that started when she was a little girl, Ms. Pulliam found herself in a destructive relationship and as the years went by she found that her addiction was in full control of every aspect of her life.  Finding her way back to sobriety was a rocky road that was full of setbacks and failures.  However, as the saying goes, it’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s about how many times you are willing to get back up. In our conversation, Ms. Pulliam describes how sobriety is something that is an intentional decision that one must make every day and when you have moments of weakness you need someone that you can go to that will help you remain strong. Her faith, her tenacity and her loving heart will leave you pulling for her success and you will gain a new perspective on how difficult life can be, but anything can be possible through faith and perseverance. Kick Start to Glory: Josh Jasper’s Journey Through D1 Football

Kick Start to Glory: One Player’s Journey Through D1 Football.  My guest this week is Mr. Josh Jasper, former LSU kicker and now pursing the life of a firefighter. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” ~ E. Roosevelt   I feel it would be safe to say that most young boys and girls dream of playing a sport professionally.  If they don’t dream of becoming a pro then they will at least mimic their favorite athletes and pretend to be that superstar. This week’s guest shares how his love for both soccer and football came together and gave him an incredible ride through high school and eventually D1 football with the LSU Tigers.  Mr. Josh Jasper explains how kicking came easy to him and after his first big moment kicking the game winning field goal in high school he knew this was what he wanted to do all the time. In our conversation Jasper fills us in on how being a high school standout didn’t guarantee him a scholarship to college and it was actually his mother that took the detour on their way home after a long road trip doing tryouts that eventually landed him his one offer. Mr. Jasper found himself on the team of the 2007 National Champions his freshman year and from there he went on to set several records and become one of the most trusted kickers in college.  These successes would have seemed like he was a lock for the NFL, but unfortunately those dreams never came to be realized.  All was not lost however, because he attributes all of those moments of ups and downs through football that gave him the grit and tenacity to just keep going when things are tough.  This episode is very inspiring and over all just a fun watch. Mr. Ryan Dunn | Beyond the Pain: How Tragedy Led Him to True Joy

Beyond the Pain: How Tragedy Led Him to True Joy.  My guest this week is Mr. Ryan Dunn, former police officer turned project manager. “The darkest nights produce the brightest stars.” ~ Unknown Sometimes we may find ourselves in situations that force us to push through pain that we did nothing to cause.  That is exactly what my guest this week had to do at the early age of 11 when his mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a short time later.  Mr. Ryan Dunn found himself hurting and feeling lost, but thankfully he had a caring father that would always be by his side. Ryan describes how growing up was made easier when his stepmother came into the picture and how she accepted Ryan and his brothers as her own.  Despite the great mentors in his life Ryan admits that he and his brother got into their fair share of trouble. Then after a 12 year stretch of working at a golf course, Ryan decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a police officer.  His father is a retired Memphis Police Officer and Ryan had always been impressed with his father’s work.  It was on the police department that Ryan found his groove, but his life would suddenly change overnight after making one bad decision.  It was this turning point in his life that he chooses to be better instead of being bitter.  He used his mistake to be a voice for others and prove that second chances matter and there can be light on the horizon if just keep going and never give up. Fuel for a Cause: Jimmy ‘Taco’ Burns’ Long Distance Charity Ride

Fuel for a Cause: Jimmy ‘Taco’ Burns’ Long Distance Charity Ride.  My guest this week is, Jimmy Burns a member of Mile Monsters, Inc. “Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference.” ~ K. Calvin My guest this week found a way to combine his love of riding motorcycles with a cause that helps thousands of kids and even challenges himself beyond what he could have ever dreamed possible. Mr. Jimmy ‘Taco’ Burns is a longtime friend that crossed my path many years ago when we both worked together at Gold Strike Casino.  Jimmy had been involved with security for most of his life and for as long as he could remember he has been a motorcycle enthusiast.  Jimmy is a member of “Mile Monsters, Inc.” and has ridden for a cause many times.  It was this drive to ride for something bigger than himself that pushed him to think broader. Jimmy explains how a simple challenge suddenly was turned into a calling and one of his life’s missions.  If you are a rider then it is likely that you know about iron butt challenges that are grueling 1000 miles of riding in one day.  Well, it was one of those challenges that eventually led Jimmy to his calling of the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge which is a 10,000 mile ride in 10 days.  This ride is a self-guided, and self-sustained with no GPS ride from start to finish. Jimmy talks about how difficult the ride can be facing the elements and how there were many times that he considered throwing in the towel, but it was the thought of what he was riding for that kept him going.  Jimmy’s charity is for ‘Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy’ which effects mostly young boys. In August of 2026 Jimmy plans on tackling this incredible feat again and hopes to raise even more money for his charity than last time.  Please tune in to hear how he got the nickname ‘Taco’ and please consider helping him raise money for this amazing organization.  You can learn more by googling the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge. Melissa Dabar: A Nurse’s Journey to Becoming a Lawyer

Prescription for Justice: A Nurse’s Journey to Becoming a Lawyer.  My guest this week is Ms. Melissa Dabar, A Lawyer for the People. “Tough times never last, but tough people do.” ~ R. Schuller This week’s guest is a great example of someone that encompasses the American Dream.  Ms. Dabar came from a small town in Arkansas where everyone knew everyone’s business.  In addition to the small population Ms. Dabar also grew up during a time and place where girls were not considered to be capable of doing much and their place was in the house.  This was so much the case that her parents even suggested that she drop out of high school because she really didn’t need it. Well, Melissa did not subscribe to these lowered expectations.  In fact, if anything, this only fueled her desire to reach for something more.  It was when she witnessed her grandmother receive great care from her nurses that inspired her to become a nurse herself when she finished high school. Later in her life after she had gotten married she found herself suddenly in an abusive relationship.  As the years went by and she came to terms that her marriage was toxic and unhealthy, she decided to make another incredible life change.  The inspiration for her next move was very unconventional, but definitely a show of true faith.  After having a dream that she was supposed to be representing the underserved community she took the leap and went to law school.  Her “can do” attitude will certainly inspire you and leave you feeling anything can be possible. In addition to Ms. Dabar’s many accomplishments she now produces an amazing podcast called, “American Fight Stories”, where she highlights Americans that have overcome incredible adversity and refused to give up when other’s might have thrown in the towel.  You can find her podcast on Spotify and other podcast platforms and you can find her law firm at “Dabar Law Firm”. The HOPE Center’s Mentorship Program | CEO Mr. Stacy Dodd and COO Mr. Kenneth McKinney

Guided Pathways: Stories from The HOPE Center’s Mentorship Program.  My guests this week are, CEO Mr. Stacy Dodd and COO Mr. Kenneth McKinney. “Mentorship is leaving a legacy that lives on through others.” ~ Unknown On this week’s episode I had the incredible honor of having two of my favorite people on earth as guests.  Mr. Stacy Dodd and Mr. Kenneth McKinney share with my viewers the unique path that led them to each other and how they idea for the HOPE Center of North Mississippi, a mentorship program that serves kids in 6th-12th grade. The goal was simple in nature, just do something positive for kids and give them a place to grow.  Not having a brand and working from limited funds, Stacy and Kenneth self-funded events like roller skating, bowling and even paying to have the Harlem Globetrotters come perform for the kids.  The desire to develop something special for the kids was what drove them and quitting was not an option. In time, Mr. Dodd was able to grow his team of mentors with people like Eric Williams and Pastor Orr of Brown Missionary Baptist church.  Then Ms. Trish Tommey and eventually myself all became a family that drives the mission forward.  A big step toward growing the mission came when Mr. Dodd was able to secure a Silver Level rating from the Memphis Grizzlies as a sponsor. In our conversation we share how far the HOPE Center has come and where we see it headed for the future.  In addition Stacy shares some information about his other passion in life, helping people recover from drug addiction.  You can learn more about how to become a mentor and get involved with the HOPE Center by going to http://www.hopecenter1usa.com and if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction you can find him at http://www.stacydodd.com Please continue to listen and support this podcast and be sure to check out my social media content on my website http://MotivateWithCoachCamp.com   Also, if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor of this podcast please click the link below to learn more.

Colin Burress | Fire Chief of the City of Memphis Fire Department

Blazing Leadership: Inside Memphis Fire Department with Director Colin Burress. My guest this week is Colin Burress, the Fire Chief of the City of Memphis Fire Department. “The mark of a great leader is not how many followers they have, but how many leaders they create.” ~ Unknown My guest this week is not just the newest appointed Memphis Fire Director, but he is also a long time friend.  Chief Colin Burress takes a few minutes from his incredibly busy schedule to sit down and have a fun and meaningful conversation about all things fire. I was first introduced to Chief Burress around 2004 when I was reassigned to the newly developed Special Operations Rescue Team at fire station 36.  At that time he was the Lieutenant of Rescue 2 and had already started making a great name for himself on the department.  We share some of our favorite memories from those days with some being funny and others being pivotal moments in both of our careers…like the 400 East Brooks Road warehouse fire! Chief Burress shares how it was the suggestion of a friend he worked with on the Germantown Police Department that gave him the notion to apply for the MFD.  He admits that at that time he didn’t know where that move would lead him, but he knows now it was one of the best decisions he ever made. We dive into personal achievements and what individuals on the job had a huge impact on the person he has come to be and what that means about his approach to leadership.  You don’t want to miss the insight and inspiration Chief Burress brings to the table and I can state with complete certainty that the future of the MFD is going to be in great hands. Danny Scallions | Fire Chief of Southaven, MS

Chief of Both Worlds: Firefighting and Finishing Lines . My guest this week is Danny Scallions, the Fire Chief of Southaven, MS. “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” ~ Z. Ziglar My guest this week is the Fire Chief of Southaven, MS.  Chief Danny Scallions has been a firefighter for the better part of his entire adult life.  Originally, he had his sights on going to the City of Memphis Fire Department, but after learning he was color blind he had to take a step back and reconsider his direction.  This early mis-step plays to the character he was developing. Still wanting to pursue his interest in firefighting, Danny decided to try out for the Southaven, MS fire department.  He quickly found his path and took every opportunity to learn as many aspects of the job as possible.  This passion to continue growing in the profession eventually led him to going to paramedic school.  This is where he and I became friends and our conversations inspired me to apply for the city of Southaven. In our conversation we discuss his other passion in life, running!  Like so many other things in Danny’s life, when he decided to get into distance running he went all in and quickly set his sights on one day qualifying and running the Boston Marathon.  As you will hear, the journey to making it to the start line of Boston was suddenly becoming more difficult than the actual marathon. However, it was within his struggle to make it to Boston that he found a new level of fight and determination.  Chief Scallions grit, focus, patience, and determination are on full display in this week’s conversation. Mike Hancock | Chief of the Walls Volunteer Fire Department

A Legacy of Service: Volunteer Firefighting Personifies Community – My Guest, Mike Hancock, is the Chief of the Walls Volunteer Fire Department. “You were born with the ability to change someone’s life. Don’t ever waste it.” This week’s guest has some special ties to my early beginnings in the fire service.  Back in the late 90’s when I was getting out of the Air Force I had a strong desire to pursue firefighting as a career.  Not knowing much about firefighting and what all that entailed, I figured volunteering would give me an up close and personal experience. I promptly signed up to be a volunteer firefighter with the Walls Volunteer Fire Department in Walls, MS.  Mike Hancock was the Chief at station 9 on Hwy 301 and ironically I had seen this fire station my whole life but had never went in until the day I went to sign up. Chief Hancock talks about his early years in DeSoto County and how her became fascinated by the idea of firefighting when as a young teenage boy he witnessed a house across the street from him burn to the ground.  Please forgive the pun, but it is safe to say that this lit a flame within him to pursue firefighting as his profession. We do a deep dive into the challenges volunteer departments face all over the nation and how recruiting has multiple hurdles that have been found to be very difficult to navigate.  If you or someone you love has an affinity toward fire and EMS then you don’t want to miss this episode, I know you will find it very informative.  If you are in the Walls, MS area and you would like to learn more about how to volunteer you can call 662-781-2020 or go to http://www.wallsfiredept.com Please continue to listen and support this podcast and be sure to check out my social media content on my website http://MotivateWithCoachCamp.com   Also, if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor of this podcast please click the link below to learn more.   👉 SPONSOR THIS PODCAST -  https://bit.ly/443wPRj 🔗 WEBSITE - http://www.motivatewithcoachcamp.com 📺 WATCH - YouTube and Facebook 🎧 LISTEN - Apple and Spotify   This episode was recorded at SRP Studios and Produced by Shelby Row Productions LLC SRPStudiosLLC.com

Maraboli If you were looking for a motivational story to inspire you to go after your dreams then this week’s episode is the one for you.  Lathan Warlick grew up in Jackson, TN and early in his life he had a true love for dancing.  It wasn’t until he had a chance encounter with someone that his path in life took a quick turn. Lathan explains that his grandmother was a huge influence on his life.  She somehow knew what he was destined for, long before he even knew.  As Lathan grew, so did his dancing talents, yet, it was his grandmother that believed he was destined to be a singer. Lathan shares the story of how everything changed one night when he was with his friends at a club and a fight broke out.  Lathan was standing beside his friend at his car in the parking lot tending to his injuries when Lathan noticed two guys walking toward him.  His instincts told him to run, so he did.  However, after being trapped in a dead end, one of the guys pulled a gun to shoot him.  Lathan remembered the words of his grandmother…if you are in trouble call on the name of the Lord.  So that is what he did, and in that moment when the other person pulled the trigger the bullet didn’t come out. Charlie Robbins | Blues Guitarist and Solo Artist

Chasing the Delta Dream: A Journey to Blues Greatness.  My guest this week is Mr. Charlie Robbins, Blues Guitarist and Solo Artist. “Guitar music is the universal language – it speaks directly to the heart.” ~ Unknown This week’s guest came a long way in a short amount of time and he drove to the studio from a long way off, driving in from Greenwood, MS.  At the young age of 21, Mr. Charlie Robbins has made some large strides in the industry of music.  It was only two years ago that Mr. Robbins picked up a guitar, but he hasn’t put it down since.  Realizing he had a knack for blending songs and picking up different rhythms, Robbins focused on working toward his first performance. Robbins describes how he was nervous prior to taking the stage for the first time, but after looking back on his performance he said he actually did better his first time than he did his next two performances.  Learning how to work with a band and stay on point was all a part of the process.  As Robbins explains, “you just have to go for it and do the thing!” Robbins said, when he’s not playing with his groups, “6th Sense” or “The Charlie Robbins Blues Band”, he is crafting his ability to carry a show as a solo artist.  Then he shares how being the only one on stage comes with an entirely different feel and making sure you aren’t off becomes paramount because there is no one else up there to carry you. I know you will enjoy our conversation about how Charlie became inspired to chase his dream, how he stays grounded in humility while pushing to be better each day and where he hopes to see himself in the next 5 years.  As an added bonus he spends a few minutes giving a demo at the end of the show and even has a special guest on bass, our very own Derrick Michaud. Echoes of Freedom: A Father’s War, A Daughter’s Song – My Guests, Cecil Brunson and Daughter Dr. Angela Brunson, share the harrowing experience of being a POW in the Vietnam War. “The mind is the ultimate weapon, and hope is its ammunition.” ~ G. Coffee   This week I had the honor of sitting down with Lt. Colonel Cecil Brunson and his daughter Dr. Angela Brunson to talk about the Colonel’s war experience of fighting in the Vietnam War and his time spent as a POW at the infamous Hanoi Hilton.  His daughter adds an interesting perspective as she describes how music during captivity was used to both lift their spirits and to torture them. Colonel Brunson was flying in an F4 the day he got shot down.  His chilling details of the moment he and his partner realized they had been hit and the slow motion play by play of the canopy lifting off and the two men ejecting at 23,000 feet will keep you on the edge of your seat.  Colonel Brunson’s capture, to his interrogation and eventual release will give you an entirely new concept of what it means to earn freedom. Dr. Angela Brunson joins the conversation detailing how she was told about her father’s 5 ½ month POW stint and how the men kept up morale by singing hymns and holding church service.  This inspired Dr. Angela to do a deep dive into the healing nature of music and as a twist, the way his captors used music to torture the POW’s. It was an incredibly humbling to spend some time with these two amazing people and recount the hardships and sacrifices of Colonel Brunson and the men that served in the Vietnam War.  The one thing everyone should know and understand is, freedom is most certainly not free. Tuned In: Bob Bakeen’s Journey In Broadcasting, DeSoto County News, MS.

Tuned In: Bob Bakeen’s Journey In Broadcasting – My Guest, Bob Bakken, is a broadcaster and columnist for DeSoto County News, MS. “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if only we will tune in.” ~ G. W. Carver This week’s guest shares bis personal story of how he dreamed of being a professional broadcaster from a very early age and was known to do mock interviews and commentary as a small child.  Mr. Bakken describes how he allowed his curiosity of journalism to be his guide as he took advantage of different opportunities as they presented themselves. Growing up in the cold tundra of Minnesota, Mr. Bakken tells of how his small town experience and being the oldest of 6, with the younger 5 all being girls, helped to mold him into the person he is today.  Being bold and fearless, Mr. Bakken took leaps of faith pursuing jobs that often kept him on the road and traveling further and further away from his hometown. Eventually he landed his first professional broadcasting job when he took a position covering the double A hockey team called the River Kings.  This resulted in he and his wife moving to the deep south.  After three years Mr. Bakken moved around to several other broadcasting jobs until he landed with the DeSoto County News organization.  His inspirational journey from the North to the Mid-West to eventually landing in the south is a true testament of what it means to chase your dream and he gives a ton of credit for this being a possibility to his wife Jean.  Bob’s wife Jean is an incredible person herself and even has her business where she uses her artistic talent to tie balloon characters for kids.  If you are in the area you can find her on Facebook as Miss B-Loonie. Total Health: A Message for the Mind, Body and Soul

Total Health: A Message for the Mind, Body and Soul – Me, Your Host, Coach Camp – brings a message that anyone can benefit from. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and portion forever.” ~ Psalm 73:26 I like to think that I’ve been rather proactive throughout my adult life about staying healthy and making decent choices that effect my health.  However, after a recent calcium score test, some unfortunate life events and a small bout of feeling lost and betrayed, I quickly realized that I had to be more intentional about all of my health. I dive into things we should be aware of and how we can take steps to safeguard our mental health, as well as our physical health and our spiritual health.  Each area requires us to be mindful of all three and how we can give each of them the attention they deserve each day. Most of my life I’ve been one that thinks of others first and my well-being usually takes a distant second.  The reality is, we can’t take care of those we care about if we are not healthy. In this episode, I will talk about some of the things that create turmoil for our mental health and how we can adjust to have a better outlook on life.  I share how diet and exercises matter for a healthy body, but our genetics and family history must be in the conversation.  Lastly, I hit on what to me is the most important aspect of all three and that’s my spiritual health.  Regardless of your ethnicity, religion, culture or perspectives, I can assure you that you will take something from this quick episode and use it in your daily life. Truman Wallace | Truman Center of Hope

Rhythm Without Limits: Music Unites Abilities – My Guest, Truman Wallace, is the Empowerment Coach and Founder at Truman Center of Hope. “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” ~ J. Dean My guest this week used his unfortunate accident at the young age of two to be his motivation in life.  Truman was born to a large family and his first two years was like most two year old’s, playing with siblings and testing his parents patience as he explored his world.  It was when young Truman was hit by a car that his entire life changed in an instance. Truman shares how he went into full arrest a few times before the doctors could stabilize him.  After he was finally able to leave the hospital he continued battling a badly broken right arm.  As time passed Truman’s arm became twisted and eventually left him with limited use of his right arm.  This however did not stop him, it just forced him to do things differently than others to achieve the same thing. By the time he was 13 he was leading his youth group at church and he had developed a profound love for music with the drums being his favorite.  Truman had been living his life to its fullest when he suddenly felt a calling to help others with disabilities.  This is why he started his nonprofit called “The Truman Center of Hope”.  Truman is determined to help others realize their true worth and he hopes to make his nonprofit his legacy that will go on for many years after he is gone.  If you would like to learn more about his organization or how you could help, you can go to www.tru/mancenterofhope.com or Truman @‌truman center of hope. Debbie King | A Grandma, A CEO, A Heart Full of Purpose

Leading by Love: A Grandma, A CEO, A Heart Full of Purpose. – My Guest, Southaven Chamber of Commerce President, Debbie King. “Alone we strong, together we are unbreakable .” My guest this week shows us what being a leader is all about.  I was introduced to Mrs. King at a leadership conference and soon I learned that she was not only a community leader, but she was someone that knew how to do the right thing, even when the right thing was the hardest thing to do. Mrs. Debbie King grew up in a very diverse family that taught her how to embrace the moment and not fear change.  She shares how her time spent at the casino’s actually molded her “can do” attitude and gave her a sense of loving the challenge.  She explains how every time a new opportunity presented itself she was quick to jump at it.  If nothing else, she wanted to be a perpetual learner. After nearly 20 years in the casino business, Mrs. King was given an opportunity to go to work for the very young city of Southaven, MS.  Working at the Chamber of Commerce meant that she we would have to once again push herself out of her comfort zone and become very familiar with how to communicate with a diverse group of business leaders. In 2021 Mrs. King was rewarded for all of her strong efforts and she was assigned as the President and CEO of the Southaven Chamber of Commerce.  This new role and challenge in her life inspired her to press forward and build an amazing team of people around her by which, she gives all the credit to for making her look good.  These roles and life progression would seem to be impressive enough, but it is in our last part of the conversation that you see how big her heart truly is.  When she was faced with adopting her two grandkids she knew that the road ahead wouldn’t be easy, but there was no way that she was going to walk away from this unexpected change.  Mrs. King is the shining example of what a mentor, a city leader and a loving person should be, and I know that you will be moved by her story, just as I was. Bailee Harris | Uncovering the Truth About Postpartum

Beyond the Baby Blues: Uncovering the Truth About Postpartum Depression – My Guest, Bailee Harris. “My scars are badges of courage – proof I fought for my baby and myself.” My guest this week shares her difficult journey of battling through postpartum depression and how she found healing in small steps.  Today, we are breaking the silence on a topic that affects 1 in 7 new mothers yet remains hidden behind smiles and baby photos. Mrs. Bailee Harris talks about how she had pre-planned her entire life, from when she would go to college, to when she would get married, to what age she would start her family.  For Bailee life was a series of boxes that she enjoyed checking and up to the birth of her daughter, her plans had all come together accordingly. It was shortly after her daughter was born that both mom and baby started to have some health issues.  When Bailee’s baby became jaundiced and had to go to the doctor for some treatment and she had some health problems pop up, suddenly Bailee started doubting her ability to care for her daughter and quickly found herself falling into a state of depression. Our conversation is open and honest and Bailee hopes that by sharing her story she will give another mother out there that might be struggling to wrap her head around why she feels sad or is even having suicidal thoughts, that she is not alone.  She hopes that her story will give someone else the strength and courage to ask for help and realize that asking for help is the strongest, bravest and most helpful thing you can do for yourself and for your baby.  If you or someone you know is suffering from postpartum depression you can call the Postpartum Depression (PPD) hotline at 844-987-9882. Dr. Tracy Hall, President of STCC: Love for Community

Leading the Way: The Love for Community Drives Dr. Hall My Guest, Southwest Tennessee Community College President, Dr. Tracy Hall. “ Community is not just a place, it’s a purpose.” ~ Unknown My guest this week is a true leader in every sense of the word.  Dr. Tracy Hall is the president of Southwest Tennessee Community College and her story that led her to Memphis was not one of an accident. Dr. Hall shares how she grew up near St. Louis, Missouri, and she came from a large family that played a huge roll in her early foundation which instilled a love and compassion for everyone.  Dr. Hall explains that even though she considers herself to be an introvert she still won Homecoming Queen at her high school and was even voted most popular.  She attributes these accolades to how she always treated everyone the same and genuinely enjoyed learning about others interests. Dr. Hall didn’t initially set out to be an educator, but when a friend suggested she should try teaching, it didn’t take long before she realized how impactful teaching can be.  Over the years Dr. Hall furthered her education and she eventually found her way to administrative roles.  Then when she had the opportunity to apply for a president’s position she had two possibilities.  She could have went to Chattanooga Community College or she could take the position at Southwest Tennessee Community College. Dr. Hall considered both possibilities and she understood that Memphis is a tough city with a lot of crime and poverty.  These realities not only didn’t scare Dr. Hall away, they actually motivated her.  Where some would have ran from the obvious challenges, Dr. Hall embraced the moment looking at it as opportunity.  I know you will be inspired this week’s episode and just remember, “Southwest Tennessee Community College is your best choice.” Please continue to listen and support this podcast and be sure to check out my social media content on my website http://MotivateWithCoachCamp.com   Also, if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor of this podcast please click the link below to learn more.
