PTSD Episode 3 - Gena Busby “When you build a strong foundation starting over seems less daunting”

from Motivate with Coach Camp · host Coach Camp

Gena Busby is a mother, a paramedic, a firefighter, an RN (registered nurse) and above all, a survivor. Although we have seen a sizeable shift in female firefighters over the last 10 years I feel it is still safe to say that the career field is large in part male dominated. Gena would only see this as a challenge, not a barrier. At the early age of 5, Gena was facing some difficult life situations that required her to receive therapy and get in touch with her emotions and find ways to process information. This early exposure to self-awareness and development of problem solving would serve her well as she grew older and eventually went into public service. Straight out of high school Gena decided to pursue nursing, but after some setbacks and struggles academically, she decided to go into EMS and then became a Memphis firefighter. However, it was on the ambulance that Gena found her calling. After years of 911 calls the wear and tear finally started to take its toll. Gena tells how therapy received in her childhood years helped her to have early awareness when things started to become an issue and how her foundation was by far her strength. Because of this ability to work through personal problems and work problems Gena has been able to continue on in healthcare and is now an RN at the MED in Memphis.
