Public finances are under pressure

Since the Covid pandemic, the government has been trying to consolidate its fiscal position. This means that they are trying to limit spending to bring the budget deficit and government debt under control. In the past two years, they were lucky to collect more tax revenue than they had budgeted for, but the Minister is not going to get a windfall this year. Yesterday the Treasury briefed parliamentarians on the state of affairs at the public enterprises and it does not look good. This episode is supported by the NWU Business School.
