Pull up a chair
from Mid Life-Support with Kat Skarbek · host Kat Skarbek
This evening I stood with my head and shoulders shoved into my tiny wardrobe, dresses and cardigans brushing my ears, gripping a tiny cheap lapel mic in one hand and my iPhone 11 in the other. It was the production budget equivalent of a toddler playing hide-and-seek: hands over eyes but ridiculously visible. The reason? I was recording the trailer for my new podcast. I had an irrepressible urge to start real conversations about the messy, sometimes embarrassing, often weirdly funny stuff that really occupies women’s hearts and minds in midlife. The ‘is this it? Is this just my life now?’ conversations. The ‘is my marriage over because my libido just died’ conversations. The ‘is this brain fog or do I have early onset dementia’ conversations. The ‘is it actually murder or justifiable homicide if I smother my husband for breathing so loudly’ conversations. The things we whisper to ourselves at three in the morning but rarely say out loud in the light of day, even to our best friends. Mid Life-Support is for women navigating midlife, perimenopause and menopause and everything that comes after. No toxic positivity. No reinvention. Just talking truthfully about what it’s actually like with someone who has a mouth like a sailor and a dark sense of humour. So, if you’re sitting there mindlessly scrolling because you’re too exhausted to move, too flat to imagine there might be more, or simply desperate to hear someone put words to what you’ve been feeling... Pull up a chair. I’ll put the kettle on. You bring the biccies. This is a public episode.
