在古代，每逢七夕，最主要的民间活动就是乞巧，就是向织女乞求一双巧手。乞巧的仪式就是对着月亮穿针引线，如果线能从针孔穿过，就“得巧”，这首诗就记录了当时这个活动的盛况。
