El 8 de agosto de 1990, Juan Carlos Hurtado Miller, presidente del Consejo de Ministros y ministro de Economía del recién inaugurado gobierno de Alberto Fujimori, apareció en televisión anunciando un gran incremento de los precios de los productos "de primera necesidad". Con esta noticia, miles de peruanos cayeron en la pobreza. A esto se le conoció como el "Fujishock" y formaba parte de una serie de medidas económicas que transformarían al Perú... hasta hoy.
