Queen of the Ring Review — The First Million-Dollar Female Athlete

Joshua Hunter reviews Queen of the Ring, Ash Avildsen's biopic about Mildred Burke, the pioneering wrestler who broke into a sport banned for women across most of America and became the first million-dollar female athlete in history. Emily Bett Rickards leads the ensemble as Burke, with Josh Lucas playing her husband, promoter, & abuser Billy Wolfe, with fan favorite Walton Goggins rounding out the cast as promoter Jack Pfefer. Joshua breaks down whether the film's true story and physical performances earn its "inspiring underdog biopic" label, digs into Rickards' lead performance, & gives his honest verdict on whether this one rises above the standard biopic playbook or gets pinned for the three count by the format. 🍍 The Reel Pineapple is your one-stop shop for honest movie reviews, trailer breakdowns, and unfiltered film talk — no hype, no gatekeeping, just reel takes from someone who actually loves this stuff. 📺 Subscribe on YouTube: youtube.com/thereelpineapple 🦋 Follow on BlueSky: reelpineapple.bsky.social 🎥 Follow on TikTok & Instagram: @jhunterreelpineapple 🎬 Follow on Letterboxd: BlackShazam 🎮 Catch me live on Twitch: twitch.tv/thereelpineapple ⭐ Love the show?
