These sects emerged based on two criteria: the founder's special abilities and the needs of the people. For instance, Tantric Buddhism emerged when founders specialized in mantras and rituals, and people needed to address spiritual matters. This sect emphasizes acquiring supernatural powers through mantra recitation, rather than following the traditional Noble Eightfold Path, the path of traditional discipline, meditation, and wisdom.Similarly, the Pure Land Buddhism arose when people sought a peaceful afterlife realm and found meditation practice too challenging in this life. Thus, the founders introduced this sect, which remains popular today.However, with increasing Buddhist knowledge among the educated, there's growing interest in meditation. Consequently, meditation-focused sects have more opportunities to flourish. Meditation is extremely challenging and involves a deep, detailed theoretical and practical system. To date, there's no comprehensive curriculum meeting the scientific approach of the intellectual class yet. People learn wherever they have the opportunity. Hopefully, the future will bring a complete, highly scientific Meditation curriculum aligned with the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path.For now, lay practitioners should learn wherever they have the chance. However, each person should pray to the Buddha for guidance to the practice method best aligned with the Buddha's intention.
