Ramsbottom 101 – Episode 101

from This is Rammy

I’ve decided to take the opportunity of episode 101 to recap on a bit of Ramsbottom information, maybe you’re new to the podcast or new to Ramsbottom in general. Let’s be honest though, episode 101 was a great chance to do a Ramsbottom 101, or a basic guide to Ramsbottom in audio form. If you’re new to the podcast, I’m Lee, a local resident of Ramsbottom and each week (that’s the dream at least) I provide some information, entertainment, or at worst some light relief. Ramsbottom is a small-ish town around 4 miles north of Bury. Bury itself is around 12 miles North of Manchester in the North West of England. Ramsbottom, although your typical Milltown in construction with its many classic stone buildings all helping to provide a spectacular backdrop to your daily life has an anything BUT typical vibe running through it. There are many proud people who live in Ramsbottom. They are proud of their town and of their community. It’s this pride and community spirit which has gone towards making Ramsbottom feature frequently as one of the best places to live in England. Fact. Each year you’ll find many events happening in Ramsbottom, from the Chocolate Festival in March, the Black Pudding Throwing Championships in September to Music festivals with Ramsbottom Festival which has now rebranded to Head for the Hills. Ramsbottom Notable Events: Ramsbottom Chocolate Festival – March 1940’s Weekend – May Ramsbottom Jigsaw Festival – September Black Pudding Throwing Championships – September Head for the Hills/Ramsbottom Festival – September North Manchester Custom and Classic Bike Show – September Ramsbottom Christmas Markets – December Ramsbottom is more than the town, more than the scenery, food scene and nightlife, it’s more than the community. It’s everything rolled into one that makes Ramsbottom what it is, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. To give you an example of the food and drink scene, the Eagle and Child currently have in excess of 20 awards to date including Pub of the Year 2017 and Best Family Dining 2017. Levanter and Baratxuri (which I’ve learnt is pronounced Bara-turi) between them have multiple awards and accolades and I can honestly say I’ve not had a bad experience in any of our 20+ restaurants situated in Ramsbottom. If you fancy Chinese, we’ve got it, Tapas? Sure, we’ve got that too. Vegan?! Yep, no problem. Chocolate-based restaurant goodness? No sweat. You like food, come and try Ramsbottom. If you don’t like food, come and try Ramsbottom and we’ll fix that for you. Or just come for a drink, we’ve got plenty of those places too. Let’s be frank, from the original foundations of life in a mill town where people worked, lived and socialised in close proximity to each other has grown a town of tourism, steam trains, great places to drink and fantastic places to eat. I’m a relative newcomer to Ramsbottom, people are born here and live here all their lives, ultimately Ramsbottom is a very special place.
