Delivered by Cendani from the Parish of Our Lady of Assumption-Mamajang, in the Archdiocese of Makassar, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 4: 32-37; Rs psalm 93: 1ab.1c-2.5; John 3: 7-15.ONE HEART ONE SOUL Our meditation today has the theme: One Heart OneSoul. The Acts of the Apostles in the first reading today tells us about thefirst Christian gatherings, as they committed themselves to follow Christ andone principle that bound them together as the Church or the People of God, wasthe spirit of one heart one soul. An example of this type can better explain about thespirit of one heart one soul of the early Church. People and families outsidethe circle of the apostles of Jesus put their belongings together under onemanagement of the community. This manner served the creation of justice andequality for all members of the Church. Meanwhile, the apostles themselvestook responsibility in the teaching and preaching the Gospel, and building upspiritual bonding among the faithful. The immediate outcome for this was thatthe community and the Church became a lovely home for everyone. Each took careof one's neighbor so that the shortcomings would be avoided and the holinesswas well preserved. This is the spirit of one heart one soul, and it indeedstrengthens unity in the community. In other words, the spirit of one heart one soulreflects the virtue of balance. The heart represents a physical or biologicalpart of the human body. So, if we say we are of the same heart, it means that wehave a concrete unity of different people, regardless of various categoriessuch as young, old, fat, thin, black, white, short and other physical features. Different cultural backgrounds, races, languages, nations and so on indicate the real world where Jesus Christdirected His mission. To fulfill the will of the Father, He unites all peopleunder the power of His Kingdom in the form of Christian fellowhip, andeventually to provide them salvation. The soul signifies life and consciousness that existin the heart. The soul is the center of all human feelings and emotions. Energyof life and enthusiasm come out from the human soul. Without this element ofsoul, human heart and body are lifeless, no enthusiasm, and dead. So, if we saywe are one soul, it means that we have a shared unity among brothers, sisters, friends with the same feelings, emotions, passion, and spiritual energy. Whenpeople from the same village and culture feel their similarities, when husbandand wife experience the same emotions, or if the wife is treated unfairly byothers and the husband's reaction followed, and there are many more examples, can give us assurance that one soul is so vital for living together. So, one heart one soul really speaks about the life offaith that needs balance of physical and spiritual elements. To Nicodemus,Jesus assured him that the Son of God sent from above, from the Father, isdefinitely full of Spirit. Only when people of the world accept, acknowledgeand believe in Him, the physical realityof the faith in the world comes to complete it. This is in order to realizeGod's will to perfect our world. One heart one soul is a very real sign of ourfaith. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, make ourcharacteristic of one heart one soul becomes a reality in our lives at alltimes. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In thename of the Father ...
