Reading and meditation on the Word of God on Wednesday of the 11th week in ordinary time, June 18, 2025

Delivered by Evelyn from the Parish of Holy Spirit in the Archdiocese of Singapore. 2 Corinthians 9: 6-11; Rs psalm 112: 1-2.3-4.9; Matthew 6: 1-6.16-18.GOD SEES IN SECRET The title for our meditation today is:God Sees In Secret. There were two brothers who were students of the elementaryschool, stole fruits in a neighbour's garden. The elder climbed the tree andpicked up some of the fruits. While the younger one stood some distance fromthe tree to watch if the garden owner or other people were passing by andseeing them. They both believed that no one sawtheir act of stealing the fruits. They ran as fast as they could to the house,each carrying fruits hidden in each one’s shirt. Once they got in front of thehouse, their mother was waiting at the door holding a stick to punish them.Their faces suddenly grew pale, because the sin of stealing was already knownto the mother. The eldest child dare to ask the mother: "How come you canknow we are picking these fruits, even though the garden is far enough?" The mother scolded her two sonsbecause stealing is a sin. Then she gently taught them in the following words:"The Lord Jesus saw you in secret when you stole, then He immediately toldMama, so Mama quickly learned that Mama's children were sinning." Itturned out that someone saw the actions of the two children and went to tellabout the incident to their mother. From that moment on, the children reallyunderstand that each of their actions either good or bad and evil, God, who isinvisible, keeps watching and seeing everything. So they become afraid to sinagain. The brothers bring this valuable lesson throughout their lives. God does not only see in secret whenwe sin or even before it, when we think and plan to do any evil act. Equallyimportant is when we think, plan and do good deeds. God is present and workseverywhere, so that every time and place we are or do, there is never anopportunity that indicates His absence. This is very important to remind usthat God does not sleep, or is out of reach. As a result, we are always judgedautomatically whether we are good or evil persons, believers or unbelievers. There are three fundamental religiousobligations to describe and produce ourselves whether to be true and faithfulpersons or not. The three obligations are to do charity, to pray, and to fast.The Lord Jesus emphasizes that in doing these obligations we should be sincereand truthful, because God is always there in secret watching at us. He ishidden, but He sees every detail of our actions. The judgement of God does notoccupy its authority only in the confession room, but it works and functionevery time and in every space of life. God indeed determines whether we aregood and faithful persons or not through these religious obligations that wedo.Let's pray. In the name of theFather ... O good Lord, bless us today so that we may carry out all ourobligations faithfully and rightfully. Glory to the Father and to the Son andto the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father...
