Readings and meditation on the Word of God on Sunday, Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 31st, 2026

Genesis 34: 4b-6.8-9; Rs psalm: Dan 3: 52.53.54.55.56; 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13; John 3: 16-18.THE TRIUNE GOD The theme for our meditation on this Sunday, Solemnityof the Most Holy Trinity is: The Triune God. Mario, a 5th gradeelementary school student, was doing homework but because he couldn't find ananswer, he asked his father: "Dad, God is one but has three person, whatdoes that mean?'" The father was silent for a moment and replied,"That's very difficult to answer, son. Ask your mother there." Marioapproached his mother, "Mom, 'God is one but has three persons, what doesthat mean?'" Mom replied, "I can't answer, there is still a lot ofwork. You just study there!" The next day at school, Mario reported to the teacher,"Teacher, there is no answer. My father and mother could not answer. Sinceyou are a teacher, what is the answer?" The teacher was silent for amoment, then replied: "I will answer later, Mario. It's better for us tocontinue the lesson." Mario was disappointed. In his notebook he answeredthe question himself more or less like this: We keep asking about the meaningof the Holy Trinity, the answer is not necessarily available now, or perhaps wedon't need to know either. The important is we can say His name andbelieve." A common difficulty for believers is that they do notfully know and understand what the Trinity is like. One God, three persons arein our lessons and memory. We mention His name in prayers and worship. Wecelebrate His solemnity and feast. We have faith in Him since baptism and are confirmedby Him in the Sacrament of Confirmation. But our knowledge of Him is limited.We have heard and learned here and there, but we are still not satisfied. Sothe answer doesn't have to be now, or maybe we don't need to get a reallysatisfying answer. How or what the circumstances and real life of one Godof the three persons are exactly unknown to anyone. There is no scripture andtradition of their own. We only know in a certain definition because the LordJesus Himself says and teaches in the Gospels. He says that it is the greatmystery of our faith, the inseparable communion of the trinity. Jesus' task isto reveal the glory of God to us: God the Father, God the Son, God the HolySpirit, and to unite us all with God in one fellowship of love. The fellowshipof love in the world is the Church. The final goal that we believers will achieve is toenter into perfect communion in the eternal glory of the Trinity. The messageof Jesus and the Holy Spirit is the same, because Jesus told the disciples andall of us that it is the Holy Spirit who will teach us in all truth. This meansthe truth about God, the great mystery of the Holy Trinity. Although ourknowledge of the Holy Trinity is limited, the important thing is that we mustnot lose our faith and faithfulness to Him. Letus pray. In the name of the Father... O  most Holy Trinity, may God the Father protectand fill us with all graces, may God the Son unite and save us as one flock ofYour beloved people, and may God the Holy Spirit continue to teach andenlighten us in all truths about the greatness of Your glory.
