Rebuild Your Life After Brain Injury With Katherine Kimes

Welcome to the Health & Wellness Trailblazers Podcast! In this episode, we'll explore the journey of rebuilding life after brain injury, providing practical steps and inspiring stories of resilience. Dr. Katherine Kimes has had extensive involvement both personally and professionally within the brain injury field. Her initial focus was on the education of children, adolescents and young adults with acquired brain injury (ABI) throughout the transition process from rehabilitation/hospital setting to the reintegration into and within the school system and transition into post-secondary life. ABI Education Services, LLC is a platform to promote systemic change in relationship to providing appropriate educational services and support to primary and secondary school-aged children with brain injury to improve their overall quality of life. This mission will be achieved through speaking engagements, education, consultation, and advocacy services.   Dr. Kimes can provide expert testimony in legal cases to explain the repercussions of acquired brain injury (ABI) on a child’s/adolescent’s/young adult’s life and how the implications of injury are on-going. Dr. Kimes believes individuals with ABI should be compensated accordingly to help them to live as independently as possible because the effects of brain injury typically last a lifetime. Dr. Kimes would like to spread the message on the recovery of function phenomena and how a person can utilize these principles to reclaim one's life back after injury.  Dr. Kimes also has personal experience with TBI. At the age of 16, in 1989, Katherine was the passenger in a one car accident. She was in a coma for 6 weeks. The TBI devastated her life and it has taken 35 years of fighting to reclaim her life.
