Redeemed and Guarded: The Kinsman-Redeemer & The Good Shepherd (Day 137)

What does it mean to be bought back from hopelessness? Today we conclude the beautiful story of Ruth. On a dark threshing floor, Ruth appeals to Boaz to act as her "kinsman-redeemer"—a legal protector who can buy back her family's lost land and secure their future. Through a righteous legal transaction at the city gate, Boaz redeems her, bringing Naomi’s family back from the brink of extinction and securing a place in the lineage of King David and King Jesus. In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses this exact heart of protection to describe Himself. He is not a hireling who runs away when danger comes; He is the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep by name and willingly lays down His life to keep them safe.Today’s Scripture:📖 Ruth 3–4 – Following Naomi's advice, Ruth goes to the threshing floor at night and asks Boaz to spread his cloak over her, signaling her request for marriage and redemption. Boaz acts swiftly, clearing a legal hurdle with a closer relative at the city gate. He marries Ruth, and they give birth to Obed—the grandfather of King David.📖 John 9:35–10:21 – After the religious leaders cast out the healed blind man, Jesus finds him and reveals His identity as the Son of Man. Jesus then delivers the powerful discourse on the Good Shepherd, contrasting Himself with the "thieves and robbers" who came before Him. He declares, "I am the door of the sheep... I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."📖 Psalm 62:1–12 – A powerful psalm of absolute trust. David declares that his soul finds rest in God alone: "He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken."
