Refusing to be Accountable: On Accountability Processes

from Fucking Cancelled · host Fucking Cancelled, Clementine Morrigan, and Jay Lesoleil

In Episode 21, we discuss accountability processes, and how they are often framed as alternatives to both the criminal justice system and cancel culture. We argue instead that they function as an extension of cancel culture, and do not effectively address situations typically covered by the criminal justice system. We offer an abolitionist critique of accountability processes, and suggest different approaches which are empowering for survivors, support real transformation, and acknowledge the reality of false accusations and overstated harm. Part of the Refusing to Be Accountable series.Show NotesFollow Fucking Cancelled on Instagram.Find merch in our shop.ClementineMorrigan.comJayLesoleil.comTheme song by ST x LIAM.Mixing and editing by Charlotte Dora.
