Reggae Is King! ...So Selecta Do Ya Ting.
from The Phoney Mixes · host DJ Phoney
A Roots Selection by DJ Phoney - Dig That Heavy Reggae Groove! This mix was released as a mix on tape and cd in 2005 on Phoney Tapes (Cologne, ger) and sold well over 200 copies. It has been recorded with vinyl 45s on two MKII-turntables and a Vestax-mixer, as well as a delay effect, a Kaoss pad, one microphone and a sampler. It's all about deepest grooves. This is supposed to be the opposite of the "let's all clap our hands and party happily"-dancehall styles or the "island in the sun"-superficiality of tourist reggae. Roots Reggae with a certain vibe - too moody for many soundsystems, so exactly what I want to represent. The tough stuff instead of the hype and the surface. There's tunes by The Mighty Diamonds, Keith Hudson, The Silvertones, Ronnie Davis, Chosen Few and many more in there. I wrote the following comment in the tape inlay (and am still thinking the same): "Remember: You don't have to live in Jamaica to be a sufferah - Strike and working class revolution are the only effective ways to stop the rulers!" ...and that comment at the end of the mix is Neil Perch (of Zion Train) by the way.
