The graffiti writer REK1 is part of the first generation of the Sarajevo scene and essentially helped build it from the ground up. Back in the late ’90s, with his crew mates PATWO and BILLAIN AETHEK from STF aka SAVE THE FUTURE and the CAPITAL CITY CREW, he organized fantastic jams and created the city’s first concept walls. For a time, he also ran SHATRO, a spray paint shop, local scene café, and hangout spot. We sat down with REK1 for an interview about the beginnings of graffiti in Sarajevo and Bosnia, the evolution of the scene, the countless events, and his crews.
