Relational Skill #2 with Dr Maria on Recovery Now with Kim Justus

from A Recovery Now · host Kim Justus

Tonight is STEP 2 in Our Series of 19 Relational Skills!! Dr Mara Romanas is a staff pathologist at a Veterans' Administration hospital, where she practices general surgical pathology. She is f ellowship-trained in cytopathology. Dr Maria especially enjoys teaching and training pathology residents. Dr Maria's professional and personal life was limited by a severe traumatic brain injury suffered during a roll-over car accident in 1984 at 18yrs old. Although she doesn't have an outwardly obvious disability, her cognitive impairments were interfering with her life. In 2013,  Dr Maria went through an 8-week program of intensive holistic cognitive rehabilitation (HCR) that trained her to become her own self-therapist.She learned exactly what was wrong with herr brain and how she could  deliberately use her conscious mind to prevent my impairments from causing disabled functioning. This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life's terms. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery. This is a "we" recovery program, because it is in the "we," that we find the new "me." We focus on the four A's of Recovery: Awareness, Acceptance, Action and Adaptation. This is a place for survivor's striving to become thrivers. Warriors! Front part of show is a featured guest. The second is Open Mic and some great Indy Music sure to inspire!
